Reabilitação oral de paciente após ressecção cirúrgica de osteossarcoma em espinha nasal anterior: relato de caso

Abstract

Osteosarcoma is a rare malignant tumor that occurs in the maxilla. The treatment includes surgical resection, often accompanied by radio and chemotherapy. The rehabilitation of patients with history of tumors in the head and neck region is a great challenge for the professionals of the area, since the remaining tissue stiffness and its limitation makes the rehabilitation work difficult. In this study, we aimed to report the oral rehabilitation of a patient submitted to surgical resection of an osteosarcoma in the anterior nasal spine. In the present case, a superior removable partial denture was made, with modifications to recompose the maxillary region lost in the surgery, after one year of surgical proservation. In the end of the rehabilitation treatment, we observed that the patients’s aesthetics conditions and functional characteristics were optimized, giving her a better quality of life. Therefore, the making of removable prosthesis on facial sequelae’s cases still represents a simple and effective alternative, besides presenting low cost and being an excellent option for the functional and aesthetic restoration of the stomatognathic system.
