Espaços do feminino: narrativas pessoais e criação visual

Abstract

Art serves as a historical archive of the collective imagination, which forms and reinforces a model of cultural construction and identity. This historical archive of artistic and cultural expression has been developed according to a predominantly patriarchal model that favors the masculine and excludes women. In the Western world, dominant hegemonic classes predominantly male, Caucasian and Christian, have controlled the visual arts, as well as the structures of knowledge and human thought. The combination of language and politics as a basis for activism in a counter-hegemonic movement well established within feminist movements. I consider it necessary to remove the structural barriers that perpetuate male domination and to include feminist thoughts and principles in university teaching curricula to create a society without hostilities and to allow the equitable and symmetrical development of women within humanity. This research reflects a need and impetus to discover autobiographical and artistic works based on production and narratives of women. For that, I guided myself within the socio-biography aspects, with a self-ethnographic approach. Such an approach understands that the author's particular experiences supports the research process and narratives. My research has taken me along the line of cultural history, with consideration for the implications of the feminist axiom that 'the personal is political' and that no aspect of life, Art included, is exempt from politics.
