| Summary: | A última e mais longa série de crônicas publicada por Machado de Assis, “A Semana” (1892 - 1897), discutiu os percalços da consolidação do sistema republicano no Brasil. Experiente e nacionalmente reconhecido, Machado dedicou cinco anos da sua carreira a compor os textos que cumpririam o papel de editorial da popular Gazeta de Notícias num período em que o encantamento pela modernidade enfrentava a caótica situação política e social do país. Em uma mesma série, o cronista optou por discutir o papel social da mulher brasileira e o futuro político da República. Esses textos depõem, entre outros temas, sobre os diferentes projetos de mulher republicana que intelectuais tentavam impor às mulheres reais de raças e classes sociais distintas. O objetivo desse trabalho é compreender como Machado, entre tantos outros intelectuais, utilizou seu espaço de discussão para debater os diferentes modelos de mulher brasileira. |
| Abstract: | The last and longest chronicle series published by Machado de Assis, "A Semana" (1892-1897), discussed the mishaps of consolidation of republican sistem in Brazil. Experienced and recognized nationally, Machado dedicated five years of his career to writing texts that filled the editorial role of the popular Gazeta de Notícias in the period when the enchantment of modernity faced the chaotic political and social situation of the country. In a same series, the chronicler opted to discuss the social role of Brazilian women and the political future of the Republic. These texts testify, among other subjects, about the different projects of republican woman that the intellectuals tried to impose to the real women of distincts social classes and races. The object of this work is to understand how Machado, among many other intellectuals, uses his discussion space to discuss the different models of Brazilian woman. |
