Segregação, habitação social e práticas socioespaciais: o mergulho no cotidiano.

Abstract

The main objective of this dissertation was to unveil the process of socio-spatial segregation established in the social program, “Programa de Habitação de Interesse Social” in the city of Goiânia, GO, Brazil. We propose a comprehensive and critical analysis of the process. We seek to understand the relationships and articulations set at the place lived and in the city, from a research on the socio-spatial practices developed by the residents in their everyday lives. The methodological process covered two fronts of research: first, the process of segregation was analyzed from a theoretical-conceptual perspective; and second, it urged an immersion into the daily life of the “Jardins do Cerrado” Residences, 1, 2, 3 and 4, corpus of analysis of this research. Empirical research has provided an understanding of how residents are living the segregation process. The house appears as the first symbolic expression enunciated by the residents. The accomplishment of the dream of being a house owner itself, represents the stability, the conquest that goes through the years of struggle, the years of rent and materializes in this architectural typology. The living, the access to the city, receives little or no expressiveness on the part of the inhabitants interviewed. Exceptions can be perceived when socio-spatial relationships are associated with work practices and the search for public and private services that are not found in the “Jardins do Cerrado” Residences. The sociospatial trajectories presented by the interviewed inhabitants show that access to the different areas of the city are usually associated with the search for services, private and public, mainly secondary education and health, which are not found in the “Jardins do Cerrado” Residences 1, 2 , 3 and 4.
