dc.description.abstractThe central objective of this article is to identify and analyze the appeal and manifestation of the grotesque in the literature of the first half of the 19th century, specifically in the writings of Edgar Allan Poe and his celebrated short story The Black Cat (1843). Here, the grotesque is understood as a fundamental aesthetic category of the Romantic movement, primarily defined by the French writer Victor Hugo. To investigate this subject matter, a bibliographic analysis was conducted.pt_BR
