Abstract

This undergraduate thesis generally aims to analyze the reverse logistics of post-consumer packaging, focusing on the partnership between the cosmetics company O Boticário and the Cooperative of Recyclable Material Waste Pickers of Ituiutaba, Minas Gerais (Coopercicla). Inserted into a context marked by the increasing generation of urban solid waste, the present study sought to understand, in light of the Brazilian National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS), the advances, challenges, and contributions of this partnership to waste management and the promotion of the circular economy in the municipality. The research adopted a qualitative and quantitative methodological approach, combining semi-structured interviews with various subjects and agents involved in the process, including cooperative members, consumers, O Boticário store employees, and informal waste pickers, with the analysis of numerical data on the flow of recyclable materials and Coopercicla’s performance in the Boti Recicla program. The results allowed for an understanding of the partnership's dynamics and its socio-environmental impacts. It was, therefore, observed the strategic role of the cooperative in reverse logistics and the importance of informal waste pickers, often rendered invisible, in the recycling chain. The research also revealed structural obstacles, such as the lack of fiscal incentives and public investments, which limit the potential of the circular economy in the municipality. It is concluded that the partnership between O Boticário and Coopercicla presents potential for improvement, making it a viable model for the sustainable management of solid waste. The experience studied offers subsidies for strengthening public policies, qualifying corporate practices, and proposing new investigations on the topic.
