Práticas e fazeres têxteis: da construção de estigmas à ressignificação contemporânea

Abstract

This research seeks to historically analyze textile production in the context of European and Western culture, its subsequent devaluation as a manual activity, and its contemporary resignifications. One of the conceptual starting points for this analysis is Michel de Certeau's writings on the arts of "making do”, in which sewing is configured as a tactical practice in which the ordinary being, deprived of the privilege of artistic creation and close to an artisanal reproduction, confronts a centralizing power that segregates them from the production contemplated by the art system. Thus, based on a review of existing material on the subject, it’s proposed an investigation of the paradox of a practice seemingly submissive due to mechanicity and the feminine, but which materializes itself as a language of resistance capable of redefining discourses and subverting hierarchies imposed by the Historiography of Art.
