Inovação ou Importação? A Doutrina do Choque e o Conflito Israelo-Palestino

Abstract

Grounded in a biblical premise, the Zionist project emerged in the late nineteenth century in Europe with the aim of creating and consolidating a Jewish-majority state in Palestine. To this end, it employed processes of colonization, mechanisms of expulsion, and the systematic use of violence against the Palestinian people — factors that culminated in the outbreak of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which, through moments of greater and lesser intensity, has persisted since the first Palestinian uprisings in the 1920s. With the escalation of tensions and the intensification of Israeli offensives, particularly following the global counterterrorism rhetoric of the 2000s, Israel has undertaken renewed efforts to develop military, economic, and symbolic strategies and tactics aimed at securing advantages in the conflict. In this context, the instrumentalization — and, in many cases, the amplification — of crises have become tactics to intensify the Zionist neocolonial project, seeking to achieve the final solution of a purely Jewish state, thereby demonstrating the practical application of Naomi Klein’s Shock Doctrine. Against this backdrop, this study investigates how the Shock Doctrine has been implemented in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to what extent this application can be understood as a “shock laboratory” or as an importation of the U.S. model. The research adopts a qualitative, theoretical-documentary, and historical approach, arguing that Israel functions as a true shock laboratory, appropriating neoliberal and military strategies to legitimize and consolidate its colonial project, expanding repressive mechanisms under the justification of counterterrorism.
