dc.description.abstractDigital transformation has driven progress in the healthcare sector by optimizing operations and reducing both costs and environmental impacts. In Dentistry, the digitalization of radiographic processes enhances patient safety by reducing radiation doses and offers greater convenience to practitioners, who can manipulate images to improve diagnostic accuracy. Furthermore, digital systems contribute to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals by minimizing the disposal of waste and toxic effluents generated by conventional radiographic systems. This study aims to assess the financial and environmental impact of implementing intraoral digital radiographic systems at the Dental Hospital of the Federal University of Uberlândia (HOUFU). To this end, data were collected on the costs incurred by HOUFU for the use of the conventional radiographic system from 2015 to 2019, as well as the cost of acquiring intraoral digital radiographic systems. A cost estimate was also made for continuing the conventional system for an additional five years and compared to the actual expenses incurred. In addition, an estimate was made of the amount of waste and effluents that were no longer produced and disposed of by HOUFU following the digitalization of the radiographic system. The implementation of the digital system resulted in financial savings of BRL 57,000 for HOUFU, prevented the production of 242,784 kg of solid waste, and avoided the disposal of 1,787 liters of toxic effluents. It is concluded that digital radiographic systems are less costly and more sustainable in the long term compared to conventional radiographic systems.pt_BR

dc.description.resumoA transformação digital tem impulsionado a área da saúde, otimizando operações e reduzindo custos e impactos ambientais. Na Odontologia, a digitalização do processo radiográfico é responsável por proporcionar maior segurança ao paciente, ao passo que reduz as doses de radiação, e levar maior praticidade ao operador, que pode manipular imagens para aprimorar a tarefa diagnóstica. Além disso, o sistema digital contribui para os Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável propostos pela Organização das Nações Unidas ao minimizar o descarte de resíduos e efluentes tóxicos gerados por sistemas radiográficos convencionais. O presente estudo objetiva avaliar o impacto financeiro e ambiental da implementação de sistemas radiográficos digitais intrabucais no Hospital Odontológico da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (HOUFU). Para isso, foram feitos levantamentos acerca do custo despendido pelo HOUFU para a utilização do sistema radiográfico convencional durante o período de 2015 a 2019 e o custo para aquisição dos sistemas radiográficos digitais intrabucais. Também foi realizada uma estimativa de custo para continuação do sistema convencional por mais 5 anos e sua comparação com os custos reais despendidos. Ademais, foi estimada a quantidade de resíduos e efluentes que deixaram de ser produzidos e eliminados pelo HOUFU após a digitalização do sistema radiográfico. A implementação do sistema digital gerou uma economia financeira de 57 mil reais para o HOUFU, a não produção de 242.784kg de resíduos sólidos e evitou o descarte de 1.787 litros de efluentes tóxicos. Conclui-se que os sistemas radiográficos digitais são menos onerosos e mais sustentáveis a longo prazo que sistemas radiográficos convencionais.pt_BR
