| Summary: | Este trabalho analisa o folhetim Philomena Borges, de Aluísio Azevedo, publicado nos rodapés da Gazeta de Notícias entre 18 de dezembro de 1883 e 13 de janeiro de 1884. A obra narra os conflitos enfrentados pelo casal Philomena e Borges durante a vida conjugal, destacando a habilidade da protagonista em alcançar seus interesses pessoais por meio da barganha com o marido. Tomando por base que a escolha das literaturas publicadas nos rodapés dos jornais se pautava pelo potencial de discutir temas relevantes, este estudo propõe uma análise do folhetim em diálogo com as pautas jornalísticas da época, especialmente aquelas que contribuíam para a reflexão sobre comportamentos femininos e o casamento. Além de compreender o espaço jornalístico como um campo de reivindicação de direitos, a pesquisa investiga como Philomena Borges emprega a comicidade e elementos fantasiosos para criticar a sociedade burguesa, sobretudo no que se refere aos impactos provocados pela conduta feminina na sociedade da época. |
| Abstract: | This paper analyzes the pamphlet Philomena Borges, by Aluísio Azevedo, published in the Gazeta de Notícias between December 18, 1883 and January 13, 1884. The work recounts the conflicts faced by the couple Philomena and Borges during their married life, highlighting the protagonist's ability to achieve her personal interests by bargaining with her husband. Based on the fact that the choice of literature published in the footnotes of newspapers was based on its potential to discuss relevant themes, this study proposes an analysis of the pamphlet in dialogue with the journalistic agendas of the time, especially those that contributed to reflection on female behavior and marriage. In addition to understanding the journalistic space as a field for claiming rights, the research investigates how Philomena Borges uses comic and fanciful elements to criticize bourgeois society, especially with regard to the impact of female conduct on society at the time. |
