Análise geoespacial dos sinistros de trânsito no perímetro urbano do município de Monte Carmelo - MG

Abstract

Traffic accidents have been increasing every year and have become one of the main concerns of the government, due to its responsibility in developing public policies to improve road safety. This study sought to analyze the occurrence of traffic accidents in the urban perimeter of Monte Carmelo/MG, addressing the impact of physical factors on road safety. One of the main tools used was the Geographic Information System, with the aim of analyzing the specific patterns using the Kernel intensity estimator, through thematic maps. The maps produced allowed the identification of locations with critical points in the municipality, in addition to identifying one of the main generating factors that generated these accidents, the main one being the human factor. The analysis revealed that the main areas with the highest concentration of accidents are located in the city center and in the surrounding neighborhoods. This result is associated with a greater concentration of the main commercial and service activities in the municipality, as well as family residences, which ends up resulting in a greater circulation of pedestrians and cars. The results also show that one of the main factors generating traffic accidents was the human factor, with lack of attention being the main presumed cause, highlighting the need for educational campaigns. The road factor indicated the need for improvements in signage, lighting and road surface conditions. Finally, this study aimed to develop proposals for improvements considered low cost, aiming to contribute to the road safety of Monte Carmelo. The implementation of these proposals is short to medium term, with the aim of mitigating or even eliminating traffic accidents in some areas
