This research is part of the field of History and Historiography of Education, with a focus on the History of School Institutions. Its thesis aims to understand and unveil the political and economic interests behind the creation of the Sobradinho Municipal School, in the rural area of Uberlândia. The purpose of this institution was to teach literacy to children and even adults in the region and its incorporation into the land owned by the Federal Government, the Sobradinho Farm, where the Colégio Agrícola de Uberlândia was set up at the end of the 1960s. Against this backdrop, the aim of this research is to present the historical process of the existence of the Sobradinho Municipal School, in the rural area of Uberlândia. A number of questions make up the specific objectives: what was the economic and organisational context of Uberlândia at the time of this research; understanding the political influences on the Sobradinho community based on the Brazilian economic scenario implemented by the State during the period of the Civil Military Government; investigating how the organisation of National Education interfered with the existence of the school and its literacy process; understanding the historical trajectory of the Sobradinho Municipal School. The answers to these questions enabled us to understand the real intentions and meanings behind teaching literacy to the population of the Sobradinho community, located in the rural area of Uberlândia. The political-educational facts were analysed, looking at historical data from 1968 to 1988, government decisions, public policy actions and regulatory norms implemented during this period when Brazil was under the Civic-Military regime. The research delved into the period of the JK government and the desired goals in terms of investments in favour of commerce and industry, between the urban and rural sectors. In this way, we demonstrate the results and social clashes between rural and urban areas, due to different factors in the planning and organisation of these territorial spaces. As a method, we opted for a qualitative and quantitative study, presenting as a Case Study the historical existence of the Sobradinho Municipal School and its singularity as a representative of the rural community of Sobradinho.
