| Summary: | Lesões resultantes de traumas contusos ou perfurantes são frequentemente observadas em vítimas de atropelamento, variando de acordo com a intensidade, a força e a natureza do impacto. As lesões mais comuns incluem fraturas ósseas, rupturas musculares, danos a órgãos e hemorragias. Esse trabalho descreve dois equídeos, atendidos junto ao Hospital Veterinário UFU, com histórico de atropelamento. Ambos exibiam sinais de desequilíbrio hemodinâmico e presença de hemoperitôneo. O Paciente 1 foi submetido a laparotomia exploratória, e, com base nos achados transoperatórios, foi indicada a eutanásia seguida de encaminhamento para necrópsia. O Paciente 2, por sua vez, apresentava flail chest e hemotórax, levando também à decisão pela eutanásia. A avaliação necroscópica revelou, em ambos os casos, ruptura e laceração de musculatura esquelética e cardíaca, lesões pulmonares severas e ruptura esplênica. As informações descritas neste estudo podem contribuir para o manejo clínico e diagnóstico de equídeos envolvidos em acidentes automobilísticos, promovendo intervenções mais eficazes. |
| Abstract: | Injuries resulting from blunt or penetrating trauma are frequently observed in road traffic victims, varying according to the intensity, force, and nature of the impact. The most common injuries include bone fractures, muscle ruptures, organ damage, and hemorrhages. This article describes two animals admitted to the Veterinary Hospital UFU, with history of road traffic accident. Both exhibited signs of hemodynamic imbalance and the presence of hemoperitoneum. Patient 1 underwent exploratory laparotomy, and based on intraoperative findings, euthanasia was performed, followed by necropsy. Patient 2, on the other hand, showed flail chest and hemothorax, leading to the decision for euthanasia as well. Necropsy revealed, in both cases, rupture and laceration of skeletal and cardiac muscle, severe pulmonary injuries, as well splenic rupture. The information described in this study may aid in the clinical management and diagnosis of equines involved in road traffic accidents, supporting more effective interventions. |
