História zoológicas: um universo de aprendizagem para quem as escreve e para quem as lê

Abstract

Reading and interdisciplinary studies are possibilities to stimulate students in the pursuit of knowledge, and thus the supplementary textbook can serve as a bridge between different areas of knowledge, allowing for the practice of interdisciplinarity. In this sense, this work describes the process of creating an illustrated supplementary textbook that can contribute to the teaching of Science, specifically in the zoological field. The book “Zoo: the unusual journey of a curious horse” proves to be a facilitator of interdisciplinary education, connecting the areas of Science, Arts, Literature, and Portuguese. Therefore, the objective of this work is to describe how the book was conceived, designed, and how its story was outlined, while also depicting the author's evolution and learning throughout this process. Several teachers from basic education and the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU) were consulted to analyze the illustrations and the zoological content contained within, which undoubtedly greatly contributed to the final outcome. The book tells the story of a horse that lives in an amusement park, tethered to a carousel. Upon meeting a butterfly, a desire to be free and explore oneself and other animals emerges within him.
