This is Us e o corpo gordo: a construção da personagem Kate Pearson

Abstract

This monograph aims to analyze how the American drama series This is Us (2016- 2022) addresses the fat body, through the construction given especially to the character Kate Pearson, in the first season. For this, the filmic constellation method proposed by Mariana Souza (2020) was used, bringing together episodes and events that refer to the following analytical operators: 1) the character's relationship with herself; 2) with others; 3) with love (romantic); and 4) with the craft (work). At first, we presented a bibliographic review of some concepts, as body, image, identity, representation, stereotype, stigma, aesthetic pressure and fatphobia, in order to gain knowledge about the subject. In addition, was also constructed an overview of the representations given to the fat body in audiovisual fiction productions, over time. First, from a state of the art gathering research in the field of Communication on the subject. Then, proposing new and brief analyzes about more recent works. At the end of the work, the considerations bring the results achieved with this research.
