O impacto do Grupo QAnon na mobilização eleitoral estadunidense de 2020

Abstract

In the last decade, the strength of extreme right-wing conspiracist groups has become alarming on the international stage, such as the QAnon group, which was considered a potential domestic terrorist threat by the FBI in 2019. The conspiracy group believes that former President Donald Trump would be waging a secret war against "Deep State" actors, seeking to save the United States. QAnon followers support Trump in his mission to expose this criminal gang, and to do so they needed to ensure that the former president was re-elected in 2020. Therefore, it is essential to understand the impact that such groups have in the largest democracy in the world, demonstrating the relevance and the palpable danger that they represent in today's world. Accordingly, the present work seeks to understand whether QAnon was able to mobilize voters in the 2020 presidential elections and what methods it used to do so. To this end, the approach used in this work will be the hypothetical-deductive method, carrying out a bibliographic review about the group, conspiracy in the United States, the use of social networks and the elections. The research will be investigative, based on the survey of the data presented here to understand the role of QAnon in the 2020 electoral mobilization. The conclusion found shows that the conspiracy group, through the dissemination of false information, were able to recruit millions of followers, who represented part of Trump's electoral base, and mobilized in the biggest presidential race in the history of the United States.
