A representação dos moradores das periferias pelo jornalismo periférico: análise cultural das publicações da Agência Mural no contexto da Folha de S.Paulo

Abstract

This research aims to analyze how the residents of the suburbs are represented in the Mural Agency, based on analyzes of the Mural blog, on the Folha de S.Paulo website. The Cultural Studies approach used makes it possible to discuss how peripheral journalism builds meanings about the social identities of the peripheries: from itself, from the other, from the relationships they establish with the city and with the exercise of journalism. The selected corpus are texts covering the period between 2012 and 2020, which carry discussions intrinsic to structural issues and place the city of São Paulo in a historical dimension: between past, present and future. In order to understand the construction of meanings about the subjects, valuing the historical and cultural context, within the Cultural Studies approach, Cultural Analysis was used. The investigation of journalistic texts reveals the identity conflict inherent in the relations between 'center' and 'periphery'. We conclude that understanding and apprehending these structural issues that cut across social identities is not only what allows us to consider a representation close to identities by the Mural, but also the way to reflect the potency of "Peripheral" as an adjective to characterize this Alternative Journalism of the borders of the city.
