Abstract
It is possible to observe in several cities the presence of squares and flowerbeds with flowering trees and animals that take advantage of its resources. This work aims to identify the main species of birds that prey on the flowers of pink ipês (Tabebuia impetiginosa), identify whether the presence or not of other pink ipês in flowering in the surroundings affect the rate of visitation and assess whether there is variation in visitor assemblage, number of flowers and frequency of predation, between nearby trees and isolated trees. For this, 12 specimens of pink ipê were chosen, at least three meters high, located in squares and flowerbeds in the city of Uberlândia (MG), considering isolated and grouped trees. The observations were carried out using a Nikon 8/40 binocular, for a total period of 12 hours in each individual, of which eight hours were carried out in the morning and four in the afternoon. It was possible to identify nine species of birds that preyed on the pink ipê flowers. Birds were generally sighted in groups of up to six individuals, except Cyclarhis gujanensis which was sighted alone. It was observed that the species: Brotogeris chiriri, Icterus cayanensis and Coereba flaveola were the main predators of pink ipê flowers, respectively, while the biggest visitors were: Brotogeris chiriri, Coereba flaveola and Icterus cayanensis, respectively.
