Abstract

What is the first idea that comes to mind if someone asks you to describe a researcher? I bet your initial description is that of a man or woman wearing glasses, a white apron and hands in gloves while holding a test tube amid various expensive equipment. However, I say from experience, that a researcher is much more than that. To become a researcher, the person goes through a long period of study: undergraduate, master's, doctorate, post-doctorate. All of these qualifications take on average, 12 years. Above all, it is important to mention that the scientific career is not separated from teaching. Both always go together. With that thought, I write this memorial. This document is a narrative of the years that I have dedicated myself to education (particularly in the teaching of microbiology) at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU). The document was written based on UFU’s RESOLUTION CONDIR 2017-03 and aims to obtain a promotion in my teaching career to become a tenured professor in this Institution. This narrative is based on scientific aspects; however, I also consider it to be affective because it includes friends and dear colleagues, inside and outside UFU, who certainly were part of this arduous trajectory, in a country with great difficulties. This memorial was written at a time of uncertainty of a country suffering from a new disease (COVID-19), however, it was written with maturity and presents a trajectory that includes everything from graduation until now. It describes the opportunities that the University provided me, the friends and colleagues that I made throughout this journey, the difficulties I encountered and how I was able to contribute in some way with the graduation of students, management, research and field work. And, finally, it points to the perspectives from this new stage, that I intend to carry out.
