Na mira dos "bota": as prisões e a violência policial a serviço da elite racista brasileira

Abstract

The present work intends to discuss the functions of prisons in capitalism through the understanding of the structural aspects of its genesis, in order to analyze the current politics of the brazilian public security and the disproportionate incarceration of black and poor youth. Based on Critical Criminology's contributions to understanding the justice system in bourgeois society and uses the Dialectic and Historical Materialist method to understand the substantial basis that determines and executes the mass incarceration made by policy. It also articulates understandings from Historical-Cultural Psychology to break with the historical contribution of scientific neutrality to the maintenance of a psychology who theorizes in favor of the elite. Through the presentation of historical facts and official data, this work aims to demonstrate that the War on Drugs materializes in a War against those who escaped neoliberalist control strategies and works with the hypothesis that capitalism, in its normal mode of operation, produces and fuels violence and crime itself, defining which criminals will be punish, through the use of police force, who always aims at the same targets. Thus, it is concluded that racism is the foundation of War on Drugs and that the mass incarceration made by policy and expresses that brazilian society guards violent instruments that are colonial inheritances for the genocide of the black population. Once the function of prisons as a mechanism of the Necropolitics was wide open, we demonstrate our agreement with Penal Abolitionism, which understands that prisions and capitalism needs to end.
