Corpos femininos sobre rodas: um estudo de genêro sobre mulheres motociclistas, representações e resistências em movimento.

Abstract

The goal of this research is to examine the experiences of female motorcyclists and to study how the insertion of women in the motorcycling environment happened, whether as means of transportation to work, trips, or as leisure and recreation. I intend to analyze habits and representation, costumes, preferred types of motorcycles, their presence in the environment and how they appear in that territory. Along this research, I look to analyze the representations of femininity in relation to the masculine motorcycling universe, differences in clothing, posture, and even physical attributes, like the use of long hair, beards, tattoos etc. General characteristics considered references to a symbolic repertoire, historically and culturally produced around this universe, mostly by the media and the market, and overall, by a society that produces and reproduces icons and meanings linked by gender differences. It is possible to observe a process of subjugation of women or the feminine, building and reconstructing a marketable point of view over the feminine body, seen as a product by motorcyclists and people who share the environment, even as an image reproduced by brands. I have come to observe aspects that push me to reflect at length over feminine bodies and think, particularly, in the gender relations that reveal themselves in this motorcycling universe of the social behavior. The goal is clarifying this relation of symbols, produced and measured predominantly by social context. In this scenario, it will be possible to conclude how social and symbolic relations that organize around the motorcycle are an object of historical analysis.
