Livro-reportagem "Fronteiras Desfeitas": impasses e dilemas na construção da identidade de refugiados sírios diante da memória do vivido e da representação midiática

Abstract

This research aims to answer the following question: what are the difficulties on constructing of Syrian refugees' identity who live in Uberlândia in the memory of what they lived and the media representation? Based on this practical problem which is the motor of the research, this study attempt was to elaborate a non-fiction book as an alternative to the mediatic representations that stereotype the refuge, with reference to the dilemmas in the production of meaning of the refugee person. In order to understand the problem presented, refuge's data were first collected. In addition, the research was based theoretically through the contributions of Cultural Studies. As a result of the research, the 140-page book "Broken Borders" was produced, which portrays the stories and memoirs of three Syrian refugees: Khaled, Hassan, and Muntasir (fictitious names). It was concluded at the end of the study, that narratives about refugee subjects can, and should, go beyond generic representations. Through their singularities and particularities, the subjects interviewed showed that "being a refugee" can be lived in different ways.
