Abstract

This work analyzes the academic course and meanings attributed to the experiences of a 22 year old student who was in doubt about staying or evading the course. The informations were obtained in 2016, a period marked by discussions about student health (mental and physical) and avoidance in higher education. This context was also affected by the political plan, when ended up the Impeachment process of Dilma Roussef (president of the Republic in 2016), followed by the approval of projects such as the reform of secondary education and the PEC that froze expenses, which had a negative impact on the professional prospects, mainly for degrees and reduced the support for students in socio-economic vulnerability. We analyzed a semi structured interview, carried out under the assumptions of critical school psychology. From the analysis of the interview emerged six categories: The institutional impact in the form of conceiving students and teachers; Influence and institutional barriers to emancipatory formation; The taking of daily life by training; Student rights and relevance of autonomy over the own formation; to beyond the focus on solidarity and on entry into advanced calls; In Search of meaning, the place and the form of the student in the academic space. It was found that factors such as a university fostering the formation of affective, student and professional ties, greater transparency in bureaucracies, adoption of a participative political stance in line with the group's interests of the students, and conception of the students as plural subjects, active and varied by part of the educational institution emerge as positive factors in the sense of permanence.
