| Summary: | Este trabalho almeja discutir o efeito das políticas públicas federais voltadas à saúde e ao saneamento na região de Ituiutaba-MG, entre 1970 e 1980. O período corresponde ao momento de consolidação da autarquia municipal SAE – Superintendência de Água e Esgotos de Ituiutaba. Durante o processo de modernização urbana da cidade, o sistema de abastecimento de água se tornou um dos elementos primordiais do mesmo. Os SAAEs são sistemas de abastecimento de água simples instalados em diversos municípios por intermédio do SESP – Serviço Especial de Saúde Pública. Este foi transformado em Fundação SESP na década de 1960. Inicialmente o órgão foi criado por meio de um acordo bi-lateral entre os Estados Unidos e o Brasil para os esforços de Guerra, em 1942. Após esse ensejo, o SESP acabou se tornando o passo inicial para a implantação de políticas sanitárias a nível federal, atendendo os estados e municípios, no meio urbano e rural, com obras de saneamento, combate à endemias, educação sanitária, formação de agentes e profilaxia. |
| Abstract: | This work aims to discuss the effect of federal public policies on health and sanitation in the Ituiutaba-MG region, between 1970 and 1980. This period corresponds to the moment of consolidation of the municipal authority SAE - Ituiutaba Water and Sewage Superintendence. During the process of urban modernization of the city, the water supply system became one of the primordial elements of this process. The SAAEs are simple water supply systems installed in several municipalities through SESP - Special Public Health Service. It has been transformed into SESP Foundation in the 1960s. Initially, the agency was created through a bi-lateral agreement between the United States and Brazil for the war effort in 1942. After that, SESP became the initial step towards the implementation of sanitary policies at the federal level, serving the states and municipalities in urban and rural areas, with sanitation, combating endemics, health education, training of agents and prophylaxis. |
