Abstract

The present work aimed to better understand the discussions placed in the scientific environment, of several areas of knowledge, about agribusiness as a concept. Thus, a bibliographic survey was carried out in the Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library Online) database looking for articles regarding the agribusiness as subject, after the establishment of this term in the scientific environment. A critical analysis was developed on this bibliography. This critical analysis was based on a preliminary research which addressing issues that have had greater scientific relevance in the academic environment after the beginning of the use of the term agribusiness. In this context, evaluations of the disputes and perspectives of ideas that were placed in the consulted bibliography were made. In these evaluations we focused on better understand the ways that have been proposed by scientific research for the future of rural development in Brazil. It was also sought to determine the implicit and symbolic positioning of the use of the most used terms in these articles. In addition, we sought to identify the interests that were at stake in researches addressing the term agribusiness, and which social actors were involved in debates reported in literature.
