Assistência em saúde à travestis: uma revisão narrativa de literatura

Abstract

Introduction: The transvestite figure breaks with the gender and sexuality binary, constituting, as a "being different", "out of the ordinary" and short of the restrictive model agreed by society. This identity constitution configures itself as a vulnerability in the confrontation of health-disease processes. In this way, the distance and exclusion of transvestites from health services is due to the establishment of hostile and unfriendly environments for assistance, in clear disagreement with the integral care and exercise of citizenship of this group. Objective: To know and analyze the publications related to health care for transvestites. Method: This is a narrative review of literature, with search of articles in the Virtual Health Library (BVS-BIREME), by the data base: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) and virtual library : Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO). The following descriptors were used standardized by Descriptors in Health Sciences (Decs): transvestism, health care. We have included articles available in full in the Portuguese language. Results and discussions: Applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, only 5 articles composed this narrative review. It is perceived to be a stigmatized social group and, therefore, poorly understood by people in general and by health professionals in particular, creating distortions in the basic principles of SUS, which makes it difficult to care for transvestites' health in public health institutions. Considerations: This study revealed gaps in the care of transvestites, which directly influences the possibility of this group becoming ill. In this way, it is suggested to rethink the applicability of the public policies directed to this part of the population and it provides the reflection on the subject in the academic environment, aiming at the formation of new health professionals attentive to this look.
