O papel da Cirurgia da Articulação Temporomandibular em tratamentos Orto-cirúrgicos

Abstract

The ortho-surgical treatments aim at correcting the dentofacial deformity and malocclusion in order to establish the correct function of the stomatognathic system. However, a portion of the population has temporomandibular disorders that may compromise the quality of treatment and its stability. There are currently several treatment modalities for these disorders and the correct diagnosis is fundamental. The objective of this paper is to report a case of a patient submitted to orthognathic surgery with anti-clockwise rotation of the maxillo-mandibular complex and bilateral disc replacement. This treatment has been shown to be stable and effective in reducing the symptomatology of these patients and optimizing ortho-surgical results.
