Quem tem medo do cotista? Análise do rendimento de estudantes cotistas nos anos iniciais de graduação da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia

Abstract

The present paper aims to analyze the academic performance of the undergraduate students in the Federal University of Uberlandia, who were affected by the Federal Law 12.711/12, which stablishes places reserved for students in the Federal Institutes of Education to recent graduates of public schools, with economic and racial perspective. The goal is to learn whether there are significant distinctions between students entering different modalities, especially those self-declared black/indigenous, and the other students of the Federal University of Uberlandia. This comparison uses the GPA (Grade Point Average) of quota and non-quota students, in order to learn more about the considerable income differences, during the first two years of the undergraduate course. After stating the trend towards the students’ performance before the law enforcement- titled historical average - it was also found that the trend pattern was or not followed by the students from each modality. However, until now, the results obtained show that the approved student performance, according to the model of the Act 12.711/12, was close to or about the historical average in 66, 55%, in relation to those analyzed. Also statistical tests ANOVA and Tukey between the arrangements were made. The data demonstrate that the entry of students for different modes of ingress, through this affirmative action, did not impair the overall performance of the university. The arrangements that are the subject of affirmative action achieved equivalent performance to the historical average and the extensive competition in almost all of the analyzed groups.
