Summary
Abstract
The present work, “Kosaeng stories: the formation of the collective identity of zainichi women as a manifestation of the international in everyday life", intends to analyze a corpus of interviews collected by the korean researcher Jackie J. Kim, in which she documents stories of the lives of zainichi women from the first generation. The zainichi are an ethnic group composed of koreans who migrated to Japan during colonial times (1910-1945) and their descendants. First generation zainichi women migrated to Japan at a very young age and lived hard lives of hard work and suffering, in the midst of colonization, war, ethnic discrimination and gender violence. It is observed, however, that the contribution of zainichi women as matriarchs safeguarding their culture and ethnicity was not registered or recognized by the community's official discourse, their agency being erased from narratives of anti-colonial nationalist struggle. It is understood that through the mobilization of their own pain, made explicit through the construction of their own grammar, zainichi women were able to put into practice a collective process of rereading suffering as an affection of resistance and, thus, justifying their own survival - both physical, social and subjective
