Abstract

The objective of this work was to study the thermal manipulation of heat-treated drilling fluid. For this, an experimental unit with a control and data acquisition system was used. The experiments will be carried out by aging the fluid for 168 hours at 5 bar and 150°C. The methods that will be used to analyze emulsion stability will be density analysis, rheological analysis, thermo-gravimetric analysis, and a supernatant formation analysis using an image processing algorithm. The experiments aim to thermally age the drainage fluid and subsequently analyze the stability of the emulsion. To determine its point of failure, which is when the fluid loses its emulsion and its rheological characteristics, characteristics that guarantee efficiency and safety during the drilling of a well, both onshore and offshore. The results obtained in this work satisfactorily indicate the failure condition of the heat-treated fluid, noting that the rheological properties and the specific mass of the fluid underwent small changes, the thermogravimetric analysis indicates different mass compositions in aliquots taken from different positions in relation to sampling-proof, and the successfully developed algorithm monitors the variation of supernatant formation over time.
