Resumo
Este trabalho pretende analisar o desenvolver da saúde pública do estado de Minas Gerais
durante a primeira metade do século XX, diante dos processos de institucionalização, educação
sanitária e construção do imaginário social da saúde. A pesquisa se fundamenta no debate
historiográfico e tem como fontes jornais mineiros publicados entre 1920 e 1940. O projeto irá
analisar a atuação das políticas de saúde pública com o foco na burocratização dos órgãos de
saúde mineiros, também trabalhará o papel da imprensa na formação do imaginário social da
saúde e da higiene e como a educação sanitária foi usada em um instrumento de controle social
para moldar comportamentos e valores morais da sociedade a partir de noções higienistas. A
análise de fontes se dará em jornais do estado de Minas Gerais que se organizavam a partir das
orientações da capital mineira e faziam uso de símbolos, textos e imagens para enfatizar a ação
de higiene pessoal com a consolodiação de uma comunidade saudável e a noção de progresso
do país.
Abstract
This work aims to analyze the development of public health in the state of Minas Gerais during
the first half of the 20th century, given the processes of institutionalization, health education
and construction of the social imaginary of health. The research is based on the
historiographical debate and its sources are Minas Gerais newspapers published between 1920
and 1940. The project will analyze the performance of public health policies with a focus on
the bureaucratization of Minas Gerais health bodies, it will also work on the role of the press in
the formation of social imaginary of health and hygiene and how health education was used as
an instrument of social control to shape behaviors and moral values of society based on
hygienist notions. The analysis of sources will take place in provincial newspapers which were
organized based on the guidelines of the capital of Minas Gerais and made use of symbols, texts
and images to emphasize the action of personal hygiene with the consolidation of a healthy
community and the country's sense of progress.
