Resumo
Este artigo tem como objetivo investigar o papel da moda na construção do gênero e do corpo político. Por meio de uma leitura discursiva destes três elementos busca-se entender como a vestimenta é capaz de produzir e perpetuar relações de poder que em si são responsáveis pela produção dos sujeitos, do gênero e da política. Para tanto utiliza-se o conceito de dispositivo entendido dentro da teoria desenvolvida por Michel Foucault e a teoria da Performatividade de Gênero de Judith Butler. São analisados uma série de exemplos históricos nos quais as vestimentas são utilizadas como ferramenta para a construção dos sujeitos, o principal deles o movimento pelo sufrágio feminino do início do século XX na Inglaterra.
Abstract
This article aims to investigate the role of fashion in the construction of gender and the body politic. Through a discursive reading of these three elements, it seeks to understand whether and how clothing is capable of producing and perpetuating power relations that in themselves are responsible for the production of subjects, gender and politics. For this end, the concept of device understood within the theory developed by Michel Foucault and the theory of Gender Performativity by Judith Butler are used. A series of historical examples in which clothes are used as a tool for the construction of subjects are used, the main one being the movement for female suffrage in England, at the beginning of the 20th century.
