Entre o futebol elitista e as massas torcedoras: o movimento popular das torcidas organizadas em São Paulo

Abstract

This work aims to understand how organized fan groups in the state of São Paulo have given an active voice to football fans, a historically elitist sport. To this end, I examine the trajectory of football in its homeland, England, and its arrival in Brazil, traversing the sport's early years until it became a mass sport, filling stadiums. In this process, I analyze the beginnings of fan organization, the uniformed fan groups, and differentiate them from the central object of this research, the organized fan groups, situating the historical context of each at the time of their creation. Books, articles, and academic dissertations were used to trace the entire trajectory of the sport and fan organizations.
