dc.description.abstractIn light of the current global scenario, the essential oil market is experiencing significant growth. This progress is closely tied to the potential associated with the properties of the respective components, ranging from their pharmacological application in homeopathy and aromatherapy to their use in complementing sanitizing products. Thus, given the importance of essential oils and their increasing demand, there is a need for studies on extraction methods that aim not only at economic returns but also at reducing environmental impacts and energy consumption. This study aims to evaluate the microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) method for eucalyptus essential oils, comparing its efficiency and environmental contribution against conventional techniques such as hydrodistillation (HD) and organic solvent extraction, Soxhlet. The study provides a literature review on the microwave-assisted extraction process of eucalyptus essential oil and compiles some results found in informational databases, such as "Periódicos CAPES," "SciELO," "Science Direct," "Repositórios UFU," and "Google Scholar," focusing on scientific articles, master’s dissertations, and doctoral theses. An evaluation of the extraction yield using solvents was conducted to assess emerging methodologies that minimize the use of non-polar solvents, considering the difficulty in processing post-extraction materials. The results show that the microwave-assisted technique has the potential to reduce extraction time, solvent consumption, and consequently the associated environmental impacts, while increasing product yield and maintaining the quality of the essential oil. Additionally, combinations of low power and long process times demonstrated higher yields.pt_BR

dc.description.resumoDiante do cenário mundial atual, o mercado de óleos essenciais apresenta um crescimento significativo. Esse avanço está intimamente ligado aos potenciais associados às propriedades dos respectivos componentes em questão, que perpassam desde a sua aplicação farmacológica, no setor de homeopatia e aromaterapia, até seu uso na complementação de produtos sanitizantes. Assim, tendo em vista a importância dos óleos essenciais e a sua expoente busca, se vê a necessidade de estudos acerca dos métodos extrativos que visem não somente o retorno econômico, mas também a redução dos impactos ambientais e consequentes consumos energéticos. Desse modo, o presente estudo objetiva avaliar a metodologia de extração de óleos essenciais de eucalipto assistida por micro-ondas (MAE), a fim de comparar a eficiência e a contribuição ambiental de tal técnica frente as convencionais existentes, tais como a hidrodestilação (HD) e a extração por solventes orgânicos, soxhlet. Assim, este estudo busca propor uma revisão bibliográfica sobre o processo de extração de óleo essencial de eucalipto via micro-ondas, e compilar alguns resultados encontrados na literatura, através de bancos informacionais, como “Periódicos CAPES”, “SciELO”, “Science Direct”, “Repositórios UFU” e “Google Acadêmico”, com foco em artigos científicos, dissertações de mestrado e teses de doutorado. Foi feito o levantamento do rendimento da extração com uso de solventes, visando avaliar as metodologias emergentes, que apresentam a menor aplicação possível de solventes apolares, tendo em consideração a dificuldade no tratamento do pós-processo dessas matérias. Os resultados demonstram que a técnica assistida por micro-ondas apresenta potencial para reduzir o tempo de extração, o consumo de solventes e consequentemente os impactos ambientais associados, elevando o rendimento do produto e mantendo a qualidade do óleo essencial. Outrossim, combinações como baixas potências e longos tempos de processo evidenciaram maiores rendimentos.pt_BR
