Entre reconstrução e resistência: um estudo sobre o ativismo feminino nos movimentos de resistência não-violenta na Síria

Abstract

The main purpose of the literature on nonviolent civil resistance (NCR) is to debunk the notion that violence is the best alternative in the face of repressive governments and the rise of rebel groups in a country. Contexts such as the Arab Spring highlight the importance of nonviolent civil resistance and its success in Tunisia and Egypt. The work also explores the gender dimension of NCR, where the role of women in this form of resistance has always been present and important for the advancement of their rights and their communities. The focus of the research is the analysis of these two areas within the Syrian civil war, where the population took to the streets in nonviolent protests during the Arab Spring, but with the increase in repression, hostilities escalated into an armed conflict between the government and rebel groups. The study is based on the hypothesis that, despite being overshadowed by the armed struggle, female RNV managed to preserve the Syrian social fabric and lend credibility to the civil resistance. Thus, the study uses qualitative analysis of female RNV movements in Syria and compares the Syrian Women's Political Movement and the Syrian Women's Network.
