dc.description.abstractGenetically modified organisms development has been one of the greatest advances in biotechnology. Through transgenics, it is possible to insert new genes that confer additional characteristics in these organisms, making them more capable of surviving the challenges faced by the environment or infectious agents. Highly productive plants have been developed through genetic engineering to withstand challenges such as drought, infectious vectors, insects, and several other applications. In this study, we investigated, through a review of the scientific literature, the current development scenario of transgenic plants in Brazil, and the benefits that these advances have provided to our country. The articles analyzed were taken from the Pubmed platform, totaling 79 articles. It was possible to observe that the transgenics that are being developed in Brazil have been, for the most part, for pest control in agriculture. Additionally, plants for environmental adaptation and for medical interest substances production have also been developed. Soybeans, sugarcane, and tobacco were the most modified plant species in Brazil, along with beans, cotton, and coffee. The articles analyzed were developed in many Brazil states, and the places with the highest production rates were SP, followed by Brasília, more specifically at Embrapa, in addition to articles with international collaborations. We conclude, then, that the development of transgenic plants is important in Brazil, since a large part of our GDP is generated by agribusiness, the main beneficiary of transgenic plants capabilities.pt_BR

dc.description.resumoO desenvolvimento de organismos geneticamente modificados tem sido um dos maiores avanços na área da biotecnologia. Por meio da transgenia é possível inserir novos genes que confiram características adicionais nesses organismos, tornando-os mais aptos a sobreviver aos desafios enfrentados no ambiente ou por agentes infecciosos. Plantas altamente produtivas têm sido desenvolvidas pela engenharia genética para resistir a desafios diante da seca, vetores infecciosos, insetos e diversas outras aplicações. No presente estudo, investigamos, através de uma revisão da literatura científica, como está o cenário atual de desenvolvimento de plantas transgênicas no Brasil, e os benefícios que esses avanços têm proporcionado para o nosso país. Os artigos analisados foram retirados da plataforma Pubmed, totalizando 79 artigos. Foi possível observar que os transgênicos que estão sendo desenvolvidos no Brasil, têm sido, em sua maioria, para o controle de pragas na agricultura. Adicionalmente, plantas para adaptação ambiental e para a produção de substâncias de interesse médico também foram desenvolvidas. Soja, cana-de-açúcar, e tabaco foram as espécies de plantas mais modificadas no Brasil, juntamente com feijão, algodão e café. Os artigos analisados foram desenvolvidos em muitos estados do nosso país, e os locais com maiores índices de produções foram o estado de São Paulo, seguido por Brasília, mais especificamente na Embrapa, além de artigos com colaborações internacionais. Concluímos, então, que o desenvolvimento de plantas transgênicas é importante no nosso país, já que boa parte do nosso PIB é gerado pelo agronegócio, principal beneficiário das capacidades das plantas transgênicas.pt_BR
