Território Negro, Espaço Branco: Ancestralidade, relações de poder, espaço urbano e Congada em Ituiutaba–MG

Abstract

The research analyzes the Congada movement in Ituiutaba, Minas Gerais, as a cultural, religious and territorial phenomenon that has existed for over 70 years, highlighting its importance in the configuration of urban space and in disputes over recognition and belonging. Congada, a traditional Afro-Brazilian expression, strains power structures by occupying and transforming urban territories, creating spaces of resistance against the exclusion and marginalization of non-white cultures and bodies. Based on geographical science, the study seeks to understand how the Ternos de Congada spatialize themselves, interact with public authorities and face the impacts of institutional racism. The research thus proposes a geographical perspective that values ​​these cultural practices as legitimate ways of producing cities, contributing to the construction of more democratic, inclusive and fair urban spaces for historically marginalized populations.
