dc.description.abstractThis work aims to present the main elements found in Aristotle’s conception of the phenomenon of akrasia, characteristic of the akratic character. The philosopher understands it as a type of action in which the agent has conflicting motivations: on one hand, his appetites (epithymiai) impel him to act in such a way as to satiate them, while his wish (boulēsis), a distinctively rational desire, and therefore exclusively human, exhorts him to act in a way comprehended by himself as right. This conflict also characterizes the akratic agent’s counterpart, the enkratic agent (enkratēs). They differ in the fact that, while the enkratic abides by his rational exhortation, the akratic surrenders to his appetites. This work aims to analyze the most relevant texts from the Nicomachean Ethics on the subject, considering the main elements of Aristotelian moral psychology to show how it is possible for the akratic agent to act contrary to what he himself understands as correct, highlighting the physiological aspects and, in the last chapter, the epistemological aspects of the phenomenon.pt_BR

dc.description.resumoO presente trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar os principais elementos presentes da concepção de Aristóteles acerca do fenômeno da acrasia, característico do caráter acrático. O pensador o compreende como um tipo de ação no qual o agente possui motivações conflitantes: de um lado, seus apetites (epithymiai) o impelem a agir de modo a saciá-los, enquanto seu querer (boulesis), um desejo distintamente racional e, portanto, exclusivamente humano, o exorta a agir de um modo compreendido pelo próprio agente como correto. Esse conflito caracteriza também a contraparte do agente acrático, a saber, o encrático (enkratēs). Eles se diferenciam no fato de que, enquanto o encrático age segundo sua exortação racional, o acrático rende-se aos seus apetites. A intenção do trabalho é analisar os textos da obra Ética a Nicômaco mais caros para o assunto, retomando os principais elementos da psicologia moral aristotélica a fim de mostrar como é possível que o agente acrático aja contrariamente àquilo que ele próprio entende como correto, destacando os aspectos fisiológicos e, no último capítulo, epistemológicos do fenômeno.pt_BR
