A Influência das fake news nos atos antidemocráticos de 8 de janeiro de 2023: Reflexões para o ensino de história

Abstract

This study aims to analyze history teaching as an ally in raising awareness about the spread of fake news. The focus of the investigation is the anti-democratic acts that occurred in Brazil on January 8, 2023, and the false information disseminated by this coup movement. The main objective is to understand history teaching and its scientific nature as a necessary tool to collaborate with society in identifying and combating fake news. To this end, analyses were carried out, mainly in reports that aim to deconstruct these untruths. This research highlighted that fake news has been a constant presence at different times in History, but in recent years, with the advancement of Information and Communication Technologies, it has spread on a larger scale. This significant increase in the spread of fake news can be observed starting in 2016, during the elections in the United States, when Donald Trump was elected president, and also in the 2018 elections in Brazil, when Jair Bolsonaro became president. In view of this problem, the study highlights the importance of History teachers reinforcing, together with their students, the need to approach the subject based on the scientific nature of History. Thus, a material with two didactic sequences is proposed for teachers, with the aim of using it in high school, in order to contribute to the social responsibilities of teaching History. This will help to promote a more critical society that is able to distinguish false information from true facts.
