Análise lógico-filosófica do paradoxo "O Dominador"

Abstract

The “Dominator” paradox is an Ancient Greek problem in which Aristotle, the Megarian philosophers, and others have worked on. Diodorus Cronus, dialectician of the Megarian School, is said to have created this reasoning to sustain his theory of possible, and maybe to invest against the Aristotelian system, as P.-M. Schuhl relates. In an attempt to better understand the “Dominator” paradox, the discussion involved in it, its relation with the Aristotelian ideas, and Schuhl’s approach in this debate, this work brings a partial translation of the book Le Dominateur et les possibles, a philosophical analysis of it, and comments to explain the translated content. The result is a critical reading of Aristotle and Diodorus positions, of the problem, the way P.-M. Schuhl understands the question, and a translated version of a text not yet published in Portuguese for those who are interested. In the end, the fragility of Diodorus accusation against Aristotle is shown.
