Summary: Objective: To understand the meaning of music for hospitalized patients in a medical clinic ward. Methodology: This is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study, carried out in a hospital located in the Triângulo Mineiro region, with 20 patients hospitalized through a semi-structured interview technique. Results: from the analysis of the data and the concepts of the historical-cultural approach, three thematic units were built: music and the transcendental dimension; Music: and the interaction with the other and the mediated relation: music as a therapeutic element. Conclusion: Music is a communication resource, a mediating element that favors dialogue and promotes the humanization of health care.
