Amazônia Azul: um bioma sob a percepção de professores de algumas escolas públicas do município de Uberlândia (MG)

Abstract

The term “Blue Amazon” refers to the wide area of water mirror, sea bed and subsoil on which the economic rights of Brazil affect. This term was denominated by the Brazilian Navy, with the perspective of attracting the attention of the public to the importance of preserving the natural resources existing there. In this way, the present study aims to investigate the perception of basic education teachers about the Blue Amazon subjects in the areas of Science, Biology and Geography that teach in some schools in the city of Uberlândia (MG). The choice of this topic arose from the importance of recognizing and preserving marine biodiversity, since the municipality of Uberlândia is located in a non-coastal region, where knowledge about the marine environment is further restricted. In order to collect data from this qualitative research, the questionnaire was used as a research tool, which consisted of five multiple choice and dissertation questions, thus allowing the interviewees to express their opinion. At the end of the research, we conclude that although we do not live in a coastal region, teachers consider the marine biome important and approach some themes in the classroom related to this environment. Although this knowledge is not yet consolidated among society, it is important to approach the Blue Amazon theme in educational institutions, in order to strengthen the importance of being a coastal country with extensive marine diversity.
