dc.description.resumoThe study of the prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in free-range chickens naturally infected is a good indicator of prevalence of T gondii oocysts in the environment because chickens feed from the g round. Ant ibodies against T gondii w ere e valuated in 10 8 s erum s amples o f free-range chickens from Uberlândia, MG, by using the modified agglutination test (MAT). A total of 77 (71%) out of 108 samples were positive (titer greater or equal 1:16) ranging from 1:16 to 1:4096, but the title most frequently found was 1:32. T. gondii was isolated from heart samples from 2 (33%) of 6 free-range c hickens seropositive in M AT. The isolates were g enotyped using 12 T.gondii genetic markers including SAG1, SAG2, SAG3, BTUB, GRA6, c22-8, c29-2, L358, PK1, a new SAG2 marker, Apico and CS3. The new T. gondii isolates from Uberlândia, MG, showed alleles of type I, II and III genotypes. Thus, our results confirm previous studies that found the high genetic variability in T gondii isolated of Brazil.pt_BR
