Gestão de um projeto internacional: um estudo de caso sobre as barreiras à comunicação

Abstract

In project management, the field of communication knowledge has its prominent importance and is considered the activity that demands more effort from the project manager. In international projects, the team members are geographically dispersed. Such fact added to the culture differences and languages represent innumerable challenges and directly influence the communication among its stakeholders. This paper aims to identify which of the communication barriers, identified by the literature of the area, were present in the management of an international project. Therefore, a qualitative research was realized, by a case study based on documentary research and semi-structured interviews with the manager and team members of an international project made by a software development company. The results obtained showed that it was possible to identify 16 of the 18 barriers to communication in the project studied, to confirm the impacts in result, which of these barriers were the most present in their context and the relation of the barriers with the literature of the area. In this way, one can confirm the importance of effective communication in project management and the need to avoid or mitigate communication barriers in order to contribute to the effectiveness of the project.
