Alternativas para as cidades do campo: o planejamento territorial do continuum urbano-rural através da análise de Monte Alegre de Minas

Abstract

How to plan the municipal territory of small towns, which have close relationship with the rural world? The present research raises the discussion about the territorial approach of planning in poorly populated municipalities and with a significant part of its population residing in the rural area, discussing how architects and urbanists can approach the territory, considering it as an urban-rural continuum in planning . The discussion about the real size of the urban space in Brazil and the need to classify the municipalities according to their degree of urbanization and relationship with the rural area are discussed in order to improve policies and plans that are closer to the territorial reality of the country, as well as analyzing the municipal space of Monte Alegre de Minas-MG, the object of this study, with the purpose of describing the formation of its urban and municipal space, analyzing how the urban and rural area of the municipality developed. Finally, urbanization alternatives for small cities and the rural territory are presented, presenting what architects, planners and the UN indicate for the planning of these areas, as well as suggesting strategies that can be adopted in Monte Alegre-MG to the municipality can develop its municipal territory more cohesively, including the rural area in planning. The contribution of this research is the extension of the discussion about territorial planning that addresses rural and urban areas in an integrated way and in the proposals of planning strategies for Monte Alegre de Minas, a municipality with a significant part of the population living in the countryside and that is in to discuss the implementation of its first Master Plan.
