Virada Estética e Hieronymus Bosch: uma análise política de sua obra

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze works of art by Hieronymus Bosch in order to identify political aspects present in his pictorial representations. The study focuses on two particular works of art – "The Peddler" and "The Haywain" –, which reflect key aspects of Bosch's production style. This article is based on the theoretical propositions of Roland Bleiker (2009) on the Aesthetic Turn in International Relations, which raise the issue of the importance of the inevitable gap between representation and the represented, assuming that it is in this hiatus that the political is located. The choice of Bosch's oeuvre in this study is justified by the fact that it treats reality in a deliberately "unreal" way, that is, it values the distance in representation between the observable world and the way the artist portrays it.
