Indicadores de desempenho ambiental em obras de construção civil no município de Uberlândia

Abstract

The construction industry is one of the sectors of the economy that consumes the most natural resources and impacts the environment. However, the emergence of a new pattern of environmental demand by society has motivated companies in this sector to change their way of dealing with environmental issues. An example of this is the search for environmental certification of works. Thus, in order to identify the environmental benefits of works that aim at the certification process, the present study employed environmental performance indicators obtained in the literature in two civil construction works in the city of Uberlândia - MG to identify waste production and consumption of water and energy. The results showed that there was a reduction in energy consumption and in the production of waste for the work that aims at certification, but water consumption was higher for the work that aims at certification. Thus, it can be concluded that the certification process leads to improvements in environmental issues, but even works without a certification process can also contribute to minimizing impacts in the sector.
