Resumo
O objetivo deste trabalho constitui-se no entendimento da reconfiguração e refuncionalização
urbana da cidade de Araguari, a partir da análise de seu papel no Triângulo Mineiro (MG). A
leitura das bibliografias que discutem sobre as diversas temáticas abordadas no estudo, as
informações buscadas em reportagens históricas de jornais locais, o levantamento de dados
em instituições públicas e privadas, além da realização de entrevistas com moradores da
cidade, constituem os principais procedimentos metodológicos que possibilitaram o alcance
do objetivo proposto. O trabalho está organizado em três capítulos, sendo que no primeiro é
realizada uma análise acerca das novas espacialidades engendradas pela chegada da ferrovia
em Araguari e do papel da cidade no contexto regional, à época em que era um entroncamento
ferroviário. No segundo capítulo, há uma discussão sobre as espacialidades engendradas na
área urbana de Araguari pela inserção do capital agrícola no município. Por último, no
terceiro capítulo analisa-se o papel regional da cidade a partir dos fluxos de saúde e transporte
e pelo questionamento sobre Araguari como uma cidade média propriamente dita, com todos
os atributos e as funções que possibilitam classificar os núcleos urbanos como tal. A pesquisa
possibilitou concluir que, com o processo de reestruturação e de refuncionalização urbana,
decorrentes da divisão territorial do trabalho, a cidade ainda consegue exercer uma
centralidade em relação à oferta de serviços de educação e saúde, desempenhando na região
uma complementaridade com o município vizinho de Uberlândia.
Abstract
The purpose of this research constitutes in the understanding of the urban reconfiguration and
refunctioning of the city of Araguari, by analyzing its role in the region of Triângulo Mineiro
(MG). The methodological procedures that enabled achieving the aim were the reading of
several bibliographies that approached the subject; information sought in historical articles of
local newspapers; data survey in public and private institutions, besides the realization of
interviews with local residents. The study is organized in three chapters, whereas the first is
an analysis about the new spatialities brought by the arrival of the railway in Araguari, the
city´s role in the regional context when it was a railroad junction. In the second there is a
discussion about the spatialities engendered in the urban area of Araguari by the insertion of
the agricultural capital in the municipality. Lastly, the third chapter analyzes the regional role
of the city from the analysis of health and transportation demands and the questioning about
Araguari as a proper medium city, with all the attributes and functions that enable to classify
the urban centers as such. The research allowed to conclude that, despite the urban
restructuring and refunctioning process, decurrent of the territorial labor hierarchy, the city
still manages to carry out a core role concerning the offer of health and educational services,
performing in the region, a complementary function with the neighbor municipality, which is,
Uberlândia.
