Abstract
Introduction: Obstetric and gynecological violence is characterized by acts of domination and
disrespect towards the female body, occurring during different stages of pregnancy, childbirth,
and postpartum, and is present in the reality of many women worldwide. However, migrant
women become more susceptible due to the socio-cultural barriers that exacerbate their
vulnerabilities. Objectives: To identify and qualify the experiences of obstetric and
gynecological violence in migrant women in healthcare services in Brazil. Methods: Five
mothers, of Venezuelan and Syrian nationalities, were selected. Recruitment was done through
a partnership with the International Migrants Support Work, located in Uberlândia/MG. Semi
structured interviews were conducted, consisting of a thematic script. Data operationalization
was performed through pre-analysis, coding, classification, and categorization, as well as
interpretation of results. Results: Through listening, it was possible to identify various social
factors in the women's statements and produce interpretations of their narratives. Physical,
verbal, psychological, and neglectful violence were reported. Lack of understanding of the local
language was recognized as the major difficulty reported by all interviewees. Regarding
understanding of obstetric and gynecological violence, 60% of the women were unaware of
what it entailed. Another factor presented by 40% of the women was the lack of recognition
when experiencing violence. Final Considerations: It was possible to report and gain a deeper
understanding of the different experiences of migrant women regarding gynecological and
obstetric violence, identifying the need for autonomy and knowledge on the subject to
strengthen their rights as citizens and women, as well as the demand for training and qualified
listening from healthcare professionals.
