Abstract
This work aims at studying the short stories which constitutes the collection
Jardins e Riachinhos , from the book Ave, Palavra posthumous work by João
Guimarães Rosa. In such texts, archetype images of the gardens and rivers are analyzed
according to Jung s concept of archetype, which establishes an indispensable correlation
with the notion of collective unconscious. The concept of archetype indicates the
existence of symbolic forms in the human psique, present all the time and everywhere.
The images presented in the work of the great writer and poet are built around a
basic orientation, constituted by emotions and feelings proper from a culture, as well as
from a whole individual and collective experience. The gardens and the rivers are
archetype images that symbolize the desires, the necessities and the anguish of the
human being since the beginning of times.
Thus, we were guided by the theory of Gilbert Durand, who proposes an
imaginary anthropology aiming at combining the totality of symbolic motivations based
on his methodology, which establishes the relationship between the imaginary and the
literature.
